What to Do in a Dental Emergency

If you have a dental emergency, call our office immediately at 919-639-3911. For a knocked-out tooth, handle it by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with water, and try to reinsert it in the socket or keep it moist in milk or saliva. Time is critical — a knocked-out tooth has the best chance of being saved if reimplanted within 30–60 minutes.

For severe pain or swelling, over-the-counter pain medication (ibuprofen or acetaminophen) can help manage discomfort while you wait for your appointment. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum tissue.

After-Hours Emergencies

Our office is open Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 6:30 PM. If you experience a dental emergency outside of office hours, call our office number and listen to the voicemail instructions. For life-threatening emergencies involving severe swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, please go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
