FAQs

Periodontal Care FAQs

Common signs include red, swollen, or bleeding gums; persistent bad breath; gum recession; loose teeth; and pain when chewing. Many patients have gum disease without obvious symptoms, which is why regular exams are critical.

Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) is fully reversible with professional cleaning and improved home care. Advanced gum disease (periodontitis) can be controlled and managed but not fully reversed. Early treatment is key.

We use local anesthesia to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Some patients experience mild sensitivity for a few days after treatment, but most find the experience very manageable.

Laser therapy is less invasive, more precise, and typically results in less bleeding, swelling, and discomfort than traditional gum surgery. It also promotes faster healing and can be more effective at eliminating bacteria.

After completing periodontal treatment, most patients require maintenance cleanings every 3–4 months rather than the standard 6-month interval. This helps prevent the recurrence of gum disease.
